The weekend of May 27th we decided to do a 3 day weekend and cruise to some islands.

Part of our journey this particular weekend was to do a recon of the islands in light of our friends and kiddos who would be coming down for a week of island hopping.  We wanted to be sure we picked all of the right spots.

Bitter End – before Hurricane Irma, the Bitter End Yacht Club was a sprawling compound, lots of hustle and bustle between yachties and vacationers staying at the resort and some great dining.  When we arrived, it was still as nice as it was but only a fraction of it was rebuilt.  The grounds and the restaurant were amazing and we enjoyed one of the best margaritas (jalapeno infused) that I have ever had.

We also enjoyed Saba Rock tremendously.  We took our dinghy over to the small island for some wonderful ambiance and some fine dining.  Upstairs is the most beautiful outdoor lounge with incredible views of the vistas. What a great evening.  And we knew that all of the millennials heading for vacation with us would love this place.

Cane Garden Bay – always one of our favorite anchorages with the most scenic hillside and sprawling beaches.  A must is the famous Bushwacker at Rymers.  When we cruised with the Olsons and the Keeltys and the Walshs and the Harts, it was a must.  And we always looked forward to their burger and fries.  Unfortunate that the special memory of their burger and fries – just wasn’t the same.  But definitely go back for the Bushwacker drink.  It’s a winner.  What the hell – have two of them !

My dear friend Jeannie Olson and I always did laundry at the back of Rhymers Hotel to freshen up our towels and some salty clothing. Fond memories for sure AND it’s still there and looks the same – a bit grungy but the machines work (well some of them do 😊)

Norman Island – this is always a great spot to land the day before we go back to Nanny Cay Marina.  Just across the sound and an easy hour back.  So naturally, we stopped there on our last night.  We managed to do the usual:  go for a hike; get a Bushwacker on the beach and lay under the umbrella and also hit up Willie T’s for some Pain Killers and some Diving off of the back of the Willie T.

Must admit, Kirk still has the form for a grandfather (aka G-Dog) !

A perfect end to a weekend getaway & we helped nail down a killer itinerary for our vacationers due here next week!
